i have a 2004 bmw 530i (m54) and my transmission giving some problems , i would start the car and put it in drive but its like it is not engaging (slipping) if i put the car in neutral and i rev the engine the car rolls forward but it would not move in any other gear . if the card is in drive the engine sounds like its dieing when accelerate over 2000 rpm. the transmission makes a banging sound when trying to change it into gear like if in reverse and try to put it in drive its makes a banging sound , i change the valve body seals and put new fluid but same thing is happening , i am currently looking for a transmission but they seems like scarce and those i found is way over $1000,
any help would be greatly appreciated
Any update????
also, take pictures and a template of which bolts come out of which holes, then need to be correct when re-installing.
I would think it would be, but the oil change would not change this if its coming from shifting, it will help the engine run better, smother, etc... but this will not change how a transmission shifts, this is handled by solenoids, the transmission fluid, and the transmission itself. I would bet it will help, but it does not mean it will absolutely fix your issue.... if the solenoids are the issue it will definitely help or even resolve the issue, but if something is broken within the transmission then just changing the solenoids will not fix it.
the link I put on here is only for reference, I had to call to order mine, and I ended up paying over the phone, because when I found them they were cheaper somewhere where they didn't sell online, but had them listed online as in inventory... I would make sure if you do order them you verify exactly which ones your transmission calls for, even within the year they can be different. you could also try to locate them used, but who knows how good or not they would be.
The process of changing them is fairly easy, drain fluid, removed the transmission pan\filter, remove the next part, sorry I don't know what its called, it has all the fluid lines in it, remove solenoids, then replace everything, and remember to fill it according to spec, fill it, run thought all gears and keep filling. it should hold about 7 quarts.
Here is a pic of mine after I replaced the solenoids, but before I reinstalled it back into the car.
the entire process took about 2 hours, cause I work slow and clean everything.
no, not 100% sure, you can wait to see if anyone else replies, but mine was knocking going into 3 and reverse, I swapped them out and it runs fine now, since then I have put almost 80,000 miles on it. you can always taske them out, clean them, see if it helps, yeah its time, but it wouldn't cost anything extra if you keep your drained fluid and return it to service afterwards (strain it first), esp since its new. Mine is also a 2004.
yes it is a zf transmission (GA6HP19Z), are u really sure its the solenoids ? i already spent 400 on filter fluid and the seals thank u for ur advice
Mine was only having an issue with 3rd gear but I replace them all

More than likely you have a ZF transmission I would look into getting new solenoids. there are approximately 350 bucks I had the same issue on my 530i. Also make sure you're using the correct filling procedure as it takes 7 quarts of fluid
