How do you test the in-the-valve-cover CCV? Newly purchased 328i is burning 1 quart every 400 miles. There are differing opinions on the web and I would like clarification before purchasing another valve cover.
Details:
-Long Life 01 Full SAP oil in use
-New Valve Cover gasket...no oil leaks above and minimal drips below
-Idles and runs well with no blue smoke
-No OBD codes
-No known vacuum leaks...fuel trims are 0-3%
Respectfully...Ed
I believe someone else must be adding oil when you are sleeping.
Check the PCV diaphragm by putting a 1/8" tubing on the PCV cover nipple and pull a vacuum by sucking on it or a vacuum pump. If it does not hold vacuum then it is bad. Otherwise a check valve inside the valve cover could be bad like I found on my 2009 328I valve cover. Then change out the whole valve cover. That is what ended up fixing my similar oil consumption problem. Now my estimated oil consumption is about 1 quart in 12,000 miles.
Thank you, Doc....
that will be your ccv change it go watch my video on how to change it I show it in full detail
