Just bought this 2003 530ia at 135780 miles.
After driving it at over 80 mph for seventy miles the oil light started flashing, when I came to a stop light the warning oil press low stop engine.
I stopped it took three quarts 5W30 oil. It seem to act ok until, I then drove about five miles, the warning light flicker low oil pressure then flashed stop engine oil pressure low! I checked oil dip stick it was full! I drive it about five miles and oil warming flickers.
It makes no noise at idle or at speed.
After about five miles the warning light starts flickerin, then when I come to a stop it states stop engine low oil pressure.
If I stop it and restart the light does not come back on, until I drive about five miles it starts flickering, then when I stop the stop engine low oil pressure returns!
I checked the oil via the dip stick full!
Not sure what is going on!
I am going to change the oil level sensor when I change the oil this week!
what is your opinion as to what to check or diagnose on this M54 engine what might cause this issue???
nice find, and thanks for your solution
Well thanks all of you for all your non help!!!
After researching on Bimmers, I R&R the oil pressure sensor back of the oil filter housing, along with the oil level sensor in the pan during the oil change of 5W30 Castrol synthetic oil. It turned out to be the oil pressure sensor!
