In BMW E39
Okay everyone...pardon my inexperience here, but BMW's are a new animal for me. Ive been a Ford and Pontiac gal for quite some time. I recently changed the power steering pump after the bottom bolt on the housing blew out. This caused me to loose my serpentine belt and overheat. Since I was on the highway, I couldn't pull over safely. But! Got that fixed and everything was good. Then the AC top O ring let go and so I have no ac. Still waiting on the parts to come in and the time to repair that. Then last night, got home after a 10 min drive from work and I notice a burnt oil smell in the cab. I park, left the hood and see white smoke (not steam), coming from the passenger side of the engine block. It smelled of burnt oil, not antifreeze or freon. (Both have a unique sweeter, gear oil smell). Not sure where it could be coming from. The top end looks clean, no obvious leaks. I can only imagine whatever is leaking, it must be dripping on the exhaust manifold. Thoughts? anyone run into this? Sorry for the story here, but I thought explaining recent activity would help rule out obvious culprits. Keep in mind...this car sat in a garage for 5 years before 4 weeks ago.
